Muddy Bunnies Forest School
Muddy Bunnies aims to provide a high quality, fun and exciting learning experience, where children play. A place for growing minds to develop, learn new skills and form the building blocks for future life and successes – all in the natural dynamic outdoor environment.
Our Forest School offers a weekly session for children aged 3 years to school age, term time only through out the year. Children do not automatically go to Forest school. Parents must liaise with the manager regarding availability if they are interested in their child attending these specific sessions.
What is Forest School ?
Forest School provides hands on learning experiences which help to develop confidence through progression, self-esteem, resilience, independence and creativity.
This is done through flexible planning, where children are encouraged to then direct their own learning as a catalyst from the leader. Staff then further support and ‘scaffold’ the children’s learning helping to further increase positive outcomes.
“Forest School is a specialised approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland learning”.
Children at Muddy Bunnies participate in a wide variety of fun and exciting activities. These can include digging, exploring, treasure hunts, map making and reading, den building, whittling, use of saws, fire making, cooking, and tree climbing in the ‘wild’ yet controlled woodland, where they are involved in learning to assess risk and make sensible decisions. The activities are all linked through the four main principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage:
A UNIQUE CHILD – that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS – Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person
ENABLING ENVIRONMENT – The environment (the woodland) plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
LEARNING AND DEVELOPING – Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are equally important.
Forest school also supports both the prime and specific areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The sessions run on a Wednesday afternoon from 12.30 till 2.30pm. There are only 12 spaces and these are allocated on a first come first served basis for those who are aged 3 years up and whose parents agree and sign the specific consent form (which includes specific activities and agreeing to provide suitable clothing). Children will be allowed to attend Forest School for a maximum of two terms, after which their space will be given to any child waiting on the list to attend.
Please be aware Forest School is very popular, and if you think you want your child to attend please make sure you see Emma to get them on the list.
If your child does not normally attend on Wednesday afternoon they are still able to attend Forest School, as long as this maintains our ratios and total numbers stipulated by Ofsted. Parents will be able to claim these sessions as part of their child’s Free Entitlement if this is how they pay for the session normally, otherwise the cost will be £21.50.
